Destructive Efficacy of Abiotic ISCR Toward the In-Situ Destruction of PCBs & 1,2,4-TCB

The encouraging results of a bench scale study employing the application of an abiotic dehalogenation agent toward the destruction of PCBs & 1, 2, 4-Trichlorobenzene, provided justification for conducting an in-situ pilot investigation. The pilot was conducted at a Brownfields former electric furnace steel smelter site where a release of the dielectric fluid had occurred. The chlorobenzene was released in an attempt to clean up the PCBs. The site provided the opportunity to employ two popular application methods. These were direct push technology (DPT) to access the deeper contaminants whereas soil blending by excavator was used to mix the shallower soils. Results indicated that a reduction of approximately 79% of PCBs and circa 70% of the chlorobenzene's were converted to non-toxic byproducts.

Results of ISCO/ISCR Treatment on a PCE/Stoddard Solvent NAPL Contaminated Site

DeepEarth Technologies, Inc. will discuss their findings in treating co-contaminated sites utilizing their patented Cool-Ox® technology. Differences in active remediation techniques and chemical mechanisms play an important role in the targeted destruction of multi-speciated sites where plumes become comingled. Oxidation as well as abiotic reductive dehalogenation can occur simultaneously and without impeding one another to accomplish reductions in both petroleum hydrocarbons and chlorinated organics, respectively. Evidence as reported in the post treatment analytical data shows concentration decline equivalent to 200 applications of alternative technologies causing a reevaluation of conventional thinking.
